Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas tried to convince the Roman Catholic Devotees not to support the Duterte administration in the upcoming senatorial elections because of the President’s criticisms against the Church.



In a video running more than 8 minutes, which was posted on social media, Villegas who’s also the former head of the Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), made a video to respond on President Duterte’s tirade against the top religion in the Philippines.



It showed President Duterte’s statement while criticizing the Church and ‘God’ and in the other parts, it can be seen Villegas reading a bible verse.

“’Wala namang Diyos!’ ang sabi ng hangal sa kanyang sarili.  Silang lahat ay masasama, kakila-kilabot ang kanilang mga gawa. Walang gumagawa ng mabuti, wala na nga, wala!” Villegas read.



“Ang kapangyarihan ng kamatayan ay hindi magtatagumpay laban sa kaniya.” the Bishop after reading another bible verse in Matthew 16:18.

“The Lord said, ‘Are you betraying the son of man with a kiss.’ My dear brothers and sisters, are you going to betray God? Are you going to deny your faith by your vote?” Villegas said in the video.



In the end, it showed footage from a movie based on Jesus Christ story.

Some netizens translated the video as a way of Villegas to convince the Catholics not to vote for the senatoriables supported by the Duterte administration.



Villegas is a critic of President Rodrigo Duterte and opposed the policies of the current administration.

Meanwhile, the President is a vocal critic of the Catholic Church and exposing the bad acts of some priest.
